Thepresidentpost.id - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi attended the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the UN Human Rights Council Headquarters in Geneva on 11 December 2023. The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed 4 (four) Indonesian national commitments to promote human rights.Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi attended the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the UN Human Rights Council Headquarters in Geneva on 11 December 2023. The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed 4 (four) Indonesian national commitments to promote human rights.

"Firstly, as the newly elected member of the UN Human Rights Council, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to strengthen political solidarity and humanitarian support for Palestine, including tripling its contribution to UNRWA," stated the Indonesian Foreign Minister (11/12).

Secondly, Indonesia is committed to continuing the ratification process of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance. If ratified, it means Indonesia will have endorsed all core international human rights instruments.

Thirdly, Indonesia is committed to protecting and respecting the rights of persons with disabilities, including strengthening the role of the National Disability Commission. Fourth, Indonesia also commits to implementing the National Business and Human Rights Strategy.

In addition to national commitments, the Indonesian Foreign Minister has also conveyed the commitments of ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste to enhance human rights cooperation in the region.

"We are committed to strengthening regional cooperation in the field of human rights, including through the implementation of the ASEAN Leaders' Declaration on the ASEAN Human Rights Dialogue adopted at the 43rd ASEAN Summit," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister while reading the ASEAN statement.

On the sidelines of her visit to Geneva, the Indonesian Foreign Minister also met with Thant Myint-U, a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge, to discuss issues related to Myanmar. The Indonesian Foreign Minister and Thant Myint-U will jointly participate as panellists in the "Round Table: the Future of Human Rights, Peace and Security" on the second day of the 75th-anniversary commemoration of the Declaration of Human Rights (12/12).

The Indonesian Foreign Minister will also speak at the High-Level Event on the human rights situation in Palestine (12/12) and deliver a statement at the Global Refugees Forum (13/12).

The 75th-anniversary commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the UN headquarters in Geneva was attended by approximately 16 Heads of State/Government and 20 officials at the Ministerial level.
